Improving patient diagnosis of axSpA

A leading pharmaceutical R&D specialist needed to improve patient diagnosis and management of Axial Spondyloarthritis (axSpA), a chronic arthritis that affects the joints of the spine, including tendons and ligaments.

The brief was to create a diagnostics tool to enhance disease identification, and an education program to upskill rheumatologists.

axSpA diagnosis is challenging, but recent advances in MRI of the sacroiliac joints have led to a major shift in diagnosing the condition*. We produced a cutting-edge MRI software capable of detecting the inflammatory process associated with the disease, and supported this with an educational roadshow to train 250 clinical rheumatologists at key treatment centres.

Working closely with their team to identify rheumatologist and patient needs, our diagnostics tool improved patient diagnosis, while also making management of the condition much easier. In less than six months, our software helped diagnose 12 new axSpA patients.

The Results

  • 12 new axSpA patients diagnosed

  • 87% voted content as highly valuable

  • 74% re-registered for the series
